I recently purchased HP Envy 6t-1100 Ultrabook which comes with Windows 8 and loads of unwanted software. I have been a user of Windows all these years till 2009 when I started using both Ubuntu and Windows. But now with the Dual boot difficulties and UEFI stuff, I decided to be a total Linux user.

After some real pain I was able to correctly install Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit. Everything worked out of the box except the Wireless. After a bit of searching, forum and blog reading I was able to locate the package name and details. The problem was fixed by running the command:

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-cw-3.6-quantal-generic

A reboot and my Wireless was now detected 🙂

  3. Some really good articles on this web site, appreciate it for contribution. “The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.” by Arnold Glasgow.

    • The command mentioned was for Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and will definitely not work for 13.04 Raring Ringtail. Try

      sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-cw-3.6-raring-generic
  4. I tried this for my Asus Eee PC 1001p running Ubuntu 12.10 which has an Atheros 2427 wireless adapter. After installing this backport my wireless still isnt working and now my graphics are super slow and the resolution is all off. Any idea what could have caused this? Is there a way to undo the backport installation?
