Install the new LibreOffice 3.3 on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat)

What is LibreOffice?

LibreOffice is the revamped OpenOffice, in fact the team working on OpenOffice got unhappy with Oracle and started a new project with the name LibreOffice. It is released as 3.3 and already many distributions are coming with it.

Install LibreOffice in Ubuntu

Ubuntu 11.04, due next month, will ship with LibreOffice by default. But it can be even used with Ubuntu 10.10 (the current stable release). Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Make sure you have uninstall the existing OpenOffice either from the command shell or the Synaptic package manager.
  2. Add the repository using the command:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
  3. Install LibreOffice using the command:
    sudo apt-get install libreoffice libreoffice-gnome

Congrats and enjoy!
